Dear NACAT friends,
On June 10, 2010 I had a fairly severe bicycle accident. Healing of many of my injuries has been quick and complete; I am thankful for this. One area of concern has been my left knee which is, without deep medical details, “blown”. I had an appointment scheduled for Friday July 16 at a specialist in Seattle (100 miles away) to lay out a plan to repair that knee.
On the morning of July 13, I woke up with a pain in my side that I told myself was a displaced vertebra or something similar. I bulled through the pain that day and night. By this morning, July 15, the pain had not abated; the bull turned into a bleating sheep.
While waiting in the parking lot of my family doctor I did some research, on my Droid, and read up on what a pulmonary embolism is and what the ramifications of this problem are. It seemed that one way or another I was going to the hospital. I drove the ¾ mile to the emergency room and checked myself in. I’ll be here for at least 4 days for treatment of a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the left lung).
I have endured several reprimands for waiting a day to seek help. It is not my nature to be a whiner; I was wrong in this case.
As part of the opening meeting I had planned, quite extensively, for a team building exercise. I asked several of the members of my PLN (Google it) to give me feedback on what I had planned. I felt that this was going to be a fun and worthwhile activity. Obviously this is not going to happen, this year...
In my absence I ask all of you to enjoy the conference and the networking opportunities that it presents. Recognize and talk to all of those who have participated in making this conference a success. Also, please welcome those who are new to the NACAT experience; this is a community that we all have a responsibility to strengthen and build.
Have a great conference, build new friendships, strengthen and renew old ones.
Kind regards,
Jeff Curtis
